Equity in Education: College Success for Single Mothers

In 2020, Western Technical College in La Crosse, Wisconsin participated in a national study that collected data to help improve college outcomes of single mothers attending community colleges. Western learned that working single mothers make up almost 15% of their student body. They found that these students face financial struggles, difficulties finding reliable and affordable childcare, and are incredibly resilient.

Director of Equity, Inclusion and Community Engagement at Western Technical College, Kari Reyburn, will present Western’s plan of action to improve college success for single mothers. This plan includes removing barriers and improving the structural inequities in their college’s system.

This presentation is just one of twelve from Track III: Cultivating Equity in Education. By attending Toward One Wisconsin 2021, you will hear success stories and best practices from experts in 48 breakout presentations on these four conference tracks:

Track I: Increasing Opportunities for Inclusion in Wisconsin’s Workforce
